What Makes our Mate Unique?
On the market, most mates found under the name Yerba Mate come from industrial monocultures in Argentina, where the plants are harvested massively, dried with smoke, stored for long periods (sometimes more than a year), and then sold as a dry, bitter, and very strong mixture. This aged yerba loses much of its natural benefits during storage, and its flavor, although traditional, is the product of standardized processes.
Instead, our mate is another story.
We work with rural families in Brazil who hand-collect wild leaves from century-old trees, in seasonal harvests under the full moon. This ancestral practice not only respects the rhythm of nature, but also allows us to obtain a fresh, green erva mate with a smooth and sweet flavor, without aggressive bitterness or industrial processes that alter its essence.
In addition, our leaves are processed with modern techniques such as freeze-drying, which preserves their freshness, nutrients, and energy properties intact, without the need for additives or artificial preservation.

What is Yerba Mate?
The word Mate, of Quechua origin, normally refers to the Ilex Paraguariensis plant and the drink originating from South America. Mate combines the energy of coffee, the health benefits of green tea, and the feeling of well-being of chocolate, all in one drink.
Yerba Mate is a term in Spanish that refers to an aged, bitter version with dried leaves of this herb, known mainly in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Erva Mate is the term in Portuguese and refers to a fresh, green, and powdered version of the same herb, consumed mostly in Brazil.
Meta Mate is a concept in English, Spanish, and Portuguese that means “more.” It goes further and redefines the consumption of mate, offering innovative and extraordinary solutions. Meta has several meanings, and we choose to highlight its interpretation in Sanskrit, which symbolizes the love and kindness we receive from the mate tree.
Only Meta Mate offers ancestral, traditional and seasonal harvests under the full moon, from ancient native trees or from individually collected and freeze-dried leaves. In addition, Meta Mate designs products such as soft drinks, beer, chocolate, cosmetics, and much more. We work in collaboration with rural families in Brazil to legalize their high-quality artisanal productions. What you probably know as Yerba Mate is an aged version, with dry leaves and a bitter taste, often coming from monocultures.
"Yerba" means herb in Spanish and normally refers to herbs grown in Argentinian monocultures, where the plants are exposed to intense sun and stored for more than a year, resulting in a strong and bitter taste.
The leaves lose much of their health benefits when stored for more than a year.

In 2010, after nearly a decade of a nomadic life sharing mate with friends around the world, Fabricio, together with co-founder Krithika do Canto, turned passion into purpose: bringing fresh, high-quality yerba mate to Europe and beyond.
What started as a vision between Brazil and Berlin became a pioneering movement. Fabricio was one of the first in Europe to import premium-quality mate, building direct relationships with farming families in Brazil and establishing a transparent, sustainable, and ethical sourcing model.
He has worked closely with Brazilian farming families to help them transition to certified organic production and adopt biodynamic agricultural practices inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s teachings. He has supported harvesting under the full moon, respecting natural cycles and restoring traditional knowledge.
A committed activist against deforestation, Fabricio has also partnered with friends and allies such as Voelkel Juice to plant trees and contribute to ecosystem regeneration — understanding that the future of mate depends on harmony with nature.
